Graph and storage

Last updated 20 October 2026

The Graph section draws your vault two ways: as a network of notes joined by their links, and as a storage sunburst that shows what takes up space and helps you win it back.

Open Graph from the sidebar (⌃6) or with ⌥⌘G. Every note is a dot, coloured by its type and sized by how many links it has. A line joins two notes when one links to the other with [[wikilinks]]. Three more layers add to the picture without changing the lines:

  • Tags: each tag is a ring that sits among the notes that share it.
  • Folders: notes in the same folder are drawn inside a shared bubble, named as you zoom in.
  • People: the people in your notes sit on a ring around the outside, joined to their notes by curved lines.

The filter button chooses which of Links, Tags, People and Folders to show; at least one stays on. The first time, only Links is on. The header counts the notes, links and people.

Graph opens the way you left it: the same layers, the same choice of Links or Storage, and the same slider settings.

Moving around the graph

  • Drag the background to pan. Pinch, or use the zoom buttons in the header, to zoom; Fit to view frames everything.
  • Hover a note to see its title. Every title appears once you zoom in far enough.
  • Click a note to highlight its links and its people. Click a person or a tag to highlight their notes.
  • Double-click a note to open it. Drag a note to move it, and the notes around it settle again.

The settings button has sliders for the forces that shape the layout, for node size and for how soon titles appear. Reset puts them back.

The preview pane

The preview button in the header (“Show the selected note alongside the graph”) opens the same preview pane as the notes list, beside the graph. Click a note and the pane shows it. Clicking a person, a tag or the background keeps the last note in the pane, and the pane keeps it across launches: the graph opens centred on it.

Storage

Switch the header toggle from Links to Storage to see your vault as a sunburst, measured from the files on disk. The centre is the folder you are looking at. Each ring outwards is one level deeper in its folders, up to six rings, and each wedge’s angle is its size, largest first. Colours stay put as you move around. Items too small to see are gathered into wedges named like “12 smaller items”, which open like folders.

Hover, zoom in and zoom out

  • Hover a wedge to see its size in the centre, and its name and size at the foot of the list on the right.
  • Zoom in by clicking a folder’s wedge, or its row in the list.
  • Zoom out by clicking the centre, the back button above the list, or any folder in the path along the top.
  • Double-click a note’s wedge to open the note.

Reclaiming space

The Reclaim space panel in the bottom-left corner of Storage lists what could be made smaller and roughly how much you would save. Each tool asks before it starts, and deletes an original only after its new copy has been written.

  • Optimise audio converts uncompressed WAV and AIFF recordings to AAC (.m4a). Notes stay linked to their recordings.
  • Optimise video re-encodes videos to HEVC at full quality, skipping videos that are already HEVC, videos used in notes, and source material.
  • Optimise images recompresses PNG, TIFF and JPEG images to HEIC, keeping a result only when it is smaller. Images used in notes and source material are skipped.

Trim silence and Compress PDFs are listed in the panel, marked planned, and cannot be used yet. To trim the silence from one recording, use Trim Silence on the ⋯ menu of that note’s transcript bar.
